The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration of the University of Ibadan (UI), Professor Peter O. Olapegba, has emphasized the need for continuous qualitative training of staff to ensure the long-term success of organizations. He made this statement during the official opening of a five-day workshop organized for 45 teaching and 50 non-teaching staff, facilitated by the MacArthur Grant Liaison Office and the Digital Bridge Institute.

Professor Olapegba noted that an organization is only as strong as the quality of its staff, which explains why UI remains committed to regularly training its workforce. He stressed that in a constantly evolving workplace, organizations must adapt to survive, and training equips staff to meet new challenges. Additionally, he highlighted the role of information and communication technology (ICT) in enhancing the university's global visibility, urging participants to improve their digital skills.

The Director of the Research Management Office, Professor A.S. Jegede, echoed these sentiments, stating that digital literacy is essential for the university to succeed on the global stage. He underscored the need for UI staff to be proficient in ICT to remain competitive.

The workshop, which covers digital skills, cybersecurity, emerging technologies, and data analysis using SPSS and Microsoft Power BI, aims to broaden participants' knowledge and improve their managerial capabilities. Mr. I.A. Akinbola, representing the Registrar, praised the initiative for strengthening the university’s commitment to staff development.

Goodwill messages were delivered by other university officials, including the Bursar, Mr. A. Popoola, and the University Librarian, Dr. Mercy A. Iroaganachi. A representative from the Digital Bridge Institute, Mr. Olaleye Adegbenro, encouraged participants to take full advantage of the pro-bono training.

The workshop underscores UI's commitment to maintaining a culture of excellence and preparing its workforce for future challenges in the academic landscape.
