"UI is Dedicated to Promoting a Culture of Safety," says DVC

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic of the University of Ibadan, Professor Rotimi Juwon Arotiba has reiterated that the University of Ibadan is dedicated to promoting a culture of safety, stressing that the University will continue to collaborate with professional bodies to advance safety practices in Nigeria.

He made this statement while receiving members of the Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (NISE) on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp while on a courtesy visit to the Office of the Vice-Chancellor.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor commended the association for its contributions to national development, particularly in the critical area of safety, noting that the University remains committed to partnerships that foster research, innovation, and practical solutions to societal challenges.

He stated that as Nigeria’s premier university, UI places a premium on collaborations that advance knowledge and drive impact through research, adding that safety is an area where stronger engagement is both timely and necessary.

The leader of the NISE delegation, Engr. Professor Abiola Olufemi Ajayeoba expressed appreciation to the University of Ibadan for the warm reception and reiterated the institution's readiness to partner with the university in promoting safety standards across all sectors of the economy.

He explained that the institution's core mission is to ensure safety everywhere, including workplaces, communities, and even within homes, by creating safety consciousness, advocating, and practising safety principles.

Professor Ajayeoba announced the forthcoming 10th Annual Conference of the Institution themed “Fire Safety," which is scheduled to be held in October.

He noted that the theme was informed by recent fire incidents in Bodija and Aleshinloye Markets and other parts of Ibadan, highlighting the urgent need for heightened fire safety awareness.

As part of the visit, the delegation decorated the Vice-Chancellor as an Ambassador of Safety, in recognition of his leadership and commitment to advancing safety culture.
