NWUK VC Professor Kurawa Appoints Directors for Newly Established Centres

The Vice Chancellor of Northwest University Kano (NWUK), Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, has approved the appointment of six persons to lead the University’s newly established centres.

He explained that the appointments were made in recognition of their competence, dedication, and commitment to service, and are in line with the decision of the University Governing Council to create centres that will address issues of importance to society.

The appointed directors are:

Professor Abubakar Salisu Garba — Centre for Leadership and Good Governance.

Professor Ahmed Baita Garko — Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics.

Professor Amina Salihi Bayero — Centre for Gender and Family Development, with Dr. Rabiatu Kabir Mustapha as Deputy Director.

Associate Professor Ahmad Abdullahi Ibrahim — Centre for Research on Almajiri, Street Hawkers and Out-of-School Children.

Dr. Mujitaba Lawan — Career Services Centre (Acting Director).

In his remarks, Professor Kurawa said the establishment of the centres reflects the University’s vision to go beyond teaching and research by offering practical solutions to societal needs. He noted that the centres will provide avenues for innovation, leadership training, social development, and career guidance. “Our goal is to place Northwest University Kano in a position where it contributes meaningfully to addressing the challenges of today while preparing for the opportunities of tomorrow,” he added.

The Vice Chancellor further urged the directors to justify the confidence reposed in them by working with dedication and producing results that will benefit both the University and the wider society.

In their remarks, the appointees expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to dedicate their efforts towards achieving the objectives of the centres. They assured the Vice Chancellor of their commitment to service and readiness to tackle the responsibilities entrusted to them.

The ceremony, held at the Vice Chancellor’s office, was attended by the University Registrar, Adm. Isyaku Adamu, the University Librarian, Dr. Karimatu Isa Maisango, and the Deputy Registrar (VC’s Office), Abdullahi Abba Hassan.
