UNIBEN Mandates Digital Project Archiving for NYSC Mobilization Compliance

University of Benin has issued a compliance directive requiring all final-year students to upload their research projects to the institution’s Institutional Repository as a compulsory condition for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilization.

The directive aligns with updated regulations from the Nigeria Education Repository Databank (NERD), which mandates the digital archiving of academic research outputs before graduates can proceed with NYSC clearance.

According to the circular, the university identified recurring issues where previously submitted Compact Discs (CDs) contained missing or blank project files, a situation described as a serious breach of academic submission standards. The institution warned that such discrepancies will lead to delays or outright blockage of NYSC mobilization for affected students.

To ensure compliance, graduating students are instructed to first verify their project status via the university’s Institutional Repository portal. Where discrepancies are detected, students are required to resubmit properly formatted copies of their research work at the John Harris Library alongside their statement of result for verification and upload.

The university emphasized that strict adherence to this process is now non-negotiable, warning that failure to comply may result in exclusion from the upcoming NYSC mobilization exercise.

The directive, signed by Mrs. E. A. Ogbe-Aiwanfo on behalf of the Registrar, underscores a broader institutional shift toward digital academic record-keeping and tighter research accountability frameworks within Nigerian tertiary education.
