UNILAG Achieves Milestone with First IFoA-Accredited Actuarial Science MSc Graduates

University of Lagos (UNILAG) has graduated the first cohort of its IFoA-accredited MSc Actuarial Science programme, with nine graduates earning exemptions from key professional actuarial examinations.

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has celebrated the graduation of the first cohort of its Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA)-accredited MSc Actuarial Science programme, marking a significant milestone in advancing actuarial education in Nigeria and across Africa.

The university said the achievement reflects its commitment to internationalisation, professional education and the development of globally competitive actuarial professionals.

According to UNILAG, the pioneer cohort admitted 15 students, with nine graduates earning exemptions from key professional examinations under the IFoA qualification framework, including CS1, CS2, CM1, CM2, CB1 and CB2.

The exemptions place the graduates on an accelerated path towards obtaining internationally recognised actuarial qualifications.

In addition to the IFoA accreditation, the Department of Actuarial Science and Insurance has secured UCAP-Advanced Curriculum (UCAP-AC) Status from the Society of Actuaries (SOA), United States, and Silver Level Recognition under the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) University Recognition Programme.

The university said the international recognitions would strengthen its global reputation, improve students’ access to professional networks and learning resources, and create more opportunities for international academic and industry collaborations.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, congratulated the Department of Actuarial Science and Insurance on the milestone, describing it as a testament to the department’s commitment to excellence, innovation and global best practices in actuarial education.
