University of Lagos (UNILAG) began a comprehensive two-day training and immersion program on Monday, November 11, 2024, designed to prepare staff members who recently transitioned from Executive, Media, and Security roles to the Administrative cadre. This initiative, organized by the Staff Training and Development Unit (ST&DU), emphasizes equipping new administrators with critical knowledge and skills for their updated responsibilities.

Themed "New Role, New You: Acquiring Relevant Knowledge, Skills and Attitude for New Job Roles," the program reflects the university management's commitment to fostering career advancement and excellence in service delivery. According to ST&DU Director Mrs. Aderonke Asiwaju, MNIM, the training aims to develop participants’ understanding of university administration, bureaucracy, culture, processes, and operational standards.

Mrs. Asiwaju noted, “This training program serves as a foundation for new administrative staff to refine their skills and adapt to the responsibilities associated with university governance.”

Acting Registrar of UNILAG, Mrs. Olakunle Makinde, MNIM, represented by Mr. Michael Uwakwe, Director in the University Registry, encouraged the attendees to embrace their new roles with a sense of purpose and dedication. She emphasized the importance of acquiring strong managerial skills, character integrity, and familiarity with the university’s vision and mission as essential elements of their new roles.

The program’s first day featured sessions on customer-oriented service delivery, administrative responsibilities, professional writing, and effective meeting management, led by distinguished faculty and administrative experts, including Professor Grace Otinwa and Acting Registrar Mrs. Olakunle Makinde.

The program is set to conclude on Tuesday with further in-depth sessions aimed at enhancing participants’ proficiency and dedication to their roles.
