Sule Lamido University Kafin Hausa (SLUK) has partnered with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) to develop a Teaching Practice Management Application (TPMA) aimed at revolutionizing teacher education through digital solutions. The initiative, funded through an NITDA grant, was officially unveiled on Monday, March 17, 2025.

During the unveiling ceremony, NITDA’s Director General, Dr. Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, CCIE, represented by the Director of Digital Literacy and Capacity Building (DLCB), Dr. Ahmed Yusuf Tambuwal, emphasized the critical role of digital solutions in shaping the future of education and professional development. He stated that the initiative aligns with Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda and NITDA’s mission to enhance digital literacy, particularly in the education sector, by integrating artificial intelligence and cloud-based technologies.

Dr. Tambuwal highlighted that the TPMA will provide student-teachers with practical teaching experience while also equipping them with essential digital competencies. He commended SLUK’s Faculty of Education and the development team, led by Dr. Usman Isah, for their dedication in bringing the project to fruition. The TPMA, he noted, will automate lesson planning, enhance communication, streamline assessments, and provide real-time progress tracking, making it a strategic investment in the future of teacher education in Nigeria.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of SLUK, Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Yakasai, FCASSON, MNAE, described the initiative as a significant shift from traditional methods to digital processes, aligning with global best practices. He urged all stakeholders to embrace the platform for improved efficiency, quality education, and national development. Prof. Yakasai also expressed gratitude to NITDA for its support and reiterated the university’s commitment to continued collaboration in advancing Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in education.

The TPMA Project Coordinator, Dr. Usman Isah, outlined the primary objectives of the project, which include simplifying lesson planning and note preparation for student-teachers through AI-assisted tools, enhancing digital literacy via practical applications, automating student assessments using digital forms and reports, and tracking teacher-trainee progress in real-time for data-driven decision-making.

Earlier in the program, the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Dr. Ali Abdullahi Taura, represented by his Deputy, Professor Jimin Nguuma, lauded the development team for their innovation. He reiterated the faculty’s commitment to supporting any initiative aimed at improving the teaching and learning process through digital technology.

The launch of TPMA marks a significant milestone in integrating digital tools into teacher training, reinforcing SLUK’s and NITDA’s dedication to advancing education through technology.
