The Ag Commander, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) Sector 2, Damaturu, Brigadier General BMG Martins, has paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB), Professor Lawal Bala Buratai, as part of his familiarisation tour of Borno State.
The visit, which took place at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, was aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration and reinforcing cordial relations between the Nigerian Army and the University community.
Speaking during the visit, Brigadier General Martins stated that the engagement was intended to foster a stronger working relationship between OPHK Sector 2 and NAUB. He also appealed to the University Management to enhance collaboration with the Nigerian Army, particularly regarding the rehabilitation of the Command Day Secondary School (CDSS) Biu Auditorium Hall, which is currently in a dilapidated state.
The Commander further emphasised the importance of providing a conducive learning environment for the Command Day Secondary School, noting that this aligns with NAUB’s responsibility as a military-owned institution.
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lawal Bala Buratai, warmly welcomed the General and his entourage. He informed the Commander that the University is presently rehabilitating the Faculty of Science building and assured him that Management would also take appropriate steps to address concerns relating to the Command Day Secondary School Auditorium Hall.
Professor Buratai also disclosed that he had earlier paid a visit to the Theatre Command in Maiduguri, where discussions were held on the case of the abducted Professor of Engineering allegedly kidnapped by Boko Haram insurgents. Brigadier General Martins assured the Vice-Chancellor that he was fully aware of the situation and confirmed that concerted efforts were ongoing to secure the academic’s release.
Highlights of the visit included the presentation of a commemorative plaque, signing of the visitors’ book, and a group photograph.
Brigadier General BMG Martins was accompanied by officers from the 231 Armoured Battalion and 331 Artillery Regiment, among others. Also present were key University officials, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Military), the Registrar, the Commandant, Command Day Secondary School Biu, the Chief Security Officer, and the Director of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance.
