UNILAG Faculty Recognizes LASU VC Prof. Olatunji-Bello with Ambassador Award of Excellence
The Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, has received the prestigious Ambassador Award of Excellence from the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos. This accolade further crowns her impressive academic and administrative career.
Prof. Olatunji-Bello was honored during the 10th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the faculty, held on Monday, October 30, 2023, at the Medical College in Idi-Araba. The award was presented to her "In recognition of (her) trailblazing achievements in academia and university administration in Nigeria."

Prof. Oluyemi Akintoye, the Dean of the faculty, emphasized that Prof. Olatunji-Bello is a true asset to her department, Physiology, and the faculty as a whole. As such, she deserved to be recognized as their ambassador.
In her response, Prof. Olatunji-Bello expressed her gratitude to the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos for deeming her worthy of the award. She humbly accepted the title, acknowledging its weight and the responsibility it carried, and expressed her sense of pride in receiving it.
The event was chaired by Prof. Tolu Odugbemi, a mentor of the Vice Chancellor and former Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos. It was attended by numerous professors and faculty members, distinguished academics from both within and outside the country, as well as members of the management and officials from Lagos State University who came to support their Vice Chancellor.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello, who has received multiple awards throughout her career, began as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Physiology at the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences in 1988. She steadily progressed to the position of Associate Professor in 2005 before joining the Lagos State University College of Medicine as its inaugural professor of Physiology.
