National Association of Nigerian Students Issues Ultimatum Over Ramadan School Closures in Bauchi, Katsina, Kano, and Kebbi

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has given the governors of Bauchi, Katsina, Kano, and Kebbi states a 72-hour ultimatum to reverse their decision to close schools for five weeks during Ramadan.

NANS National Public Relations Officer, Samson Adeyemi, described the policy as a "blatant violation" of students' rights to uninterrupted education .

Adeyemi argued that the move would disrupt academic progress and unfairly discriminate against non-Muslim students. He warned that if the directive is not overturned, students across the country would stage protests and pursue legal action to protect their rights.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has also condemned the decision, threatening legal action and citing concerns over the impact on education in the affected states .

 

NANS has called on parents, educators, and civil society organizations to join in opposing the decision, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding students' right to education.
