FUTA Honours McPherson University Vice-Chancellor With Registry Appreciation Award

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has honoured the Vice-Chancellor of McPherson University, Professor Francis Adegbaye Igbasan, with the Registry Appreciation Award in recognition of his contributions to capacity building and administrative excellence in higher education.

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has honoured the Vice-Chancellor of McPherson University, Professor Francis Adegbaye Igbasan, with the Registry Appreciation Award in recognition of his contributions to capacity building and administrative excellence in higher education.

The award was presented during the 15th Registry Annual Lecture of FUTA, held on July 16, 2026, at the Obafemi Awolowo Auditorium, Akure. Professor Igbasan was recognised for his support to the FUTA Registry through the provision of sabbatical opportunities that have strengthened professional development and administrative capacity.

Reacting to the recognition, the Registrar of McPherson University, Mrs. Emi Alawode, described the award as a fitting tribute to Professor Igbasan's exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to advancing higher education in Nigeria.

The ceremony was hosted by the Registrar of FUTA, Mr. Charles Olusegun Adeleye, under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor and Chief Host, Professor Adenike Temidayo Oladiji. The event attracted members of the University's management, registry professionals, academics and representatives of higher institutions from across the country.

The annual lecture, titled "Quality or Quantity: Rethinking Higher Education Administration in 21st Century Nigeria," was delivered by Professor Hope O. Eghagha of the University of Lagos and former Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education.

In his presentation, Professor Eghagha called for a shift from the mass production of graduates to the development of highly skilled and globally competitive professionals. He emphasised that quality administration remains fundamental to academic excellence and sustainable institutional development.

A delegation of academic and non-academic staff from McPherson University travelled from Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, to Akure to celebrate with the Vice-Chancellor, reflecting the University's strong support for his leadership.

The 15th Registry Annual Lecture also served as a platform for discussions on contemporary issues in higher education administration while recognising individuals whose leadership and contributions continue to strengthen university governance in Nigeria. Professor Igbasan's recognition further reinforces McPherson University's growing reputation for academic excellence, effective leadership and collaboration within the nation's higher education sector.
