UNILAG’s Prof. Alabi Soneye Honored as Fellow of the Association of Nigerian Geographers

Professor Alabi Sebili Okanlawon Soneye of the University of Lagos has been awarded a Fellowship by the Association of Nigerian Geographers (ANG), recognizing his significant contributions to the field. The conferment took place during the 64th Annual Conference of the ANG, held from October 13-19, 2024, at the FCT College of Education in Zuba, Abuja.
The conference, themed “Environmental Disaster, Risk Management, and Sustainable Development in Nigeria,” featured former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Dr. Useni U. Useni, as the keynote speaker. Dr. Useni shared valuable insights on risk management and sustainable development strategies, sparking robust discussions among attendees.
The event also paid tribute to the late Professor Akinlawon Ladipo Mabogunje, a revered Nigerian geographer, particularly celebrating his role in the planning and development of Abuja as the Federal Capital Territory. His work continues to inspire professionals in the field of geography and urban planning.
A total of 33 distinguished individuals, including Vice-Chancellors, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, and directors from various institutions, were honored with the prestigious Fellowship. Professor Soneye’s recognition places him among the elite of Nigerian geographers who have made outstanding contributions to environmental and geographical research.
