UNILORIN Disburses N4.5 Million OPay Scholarship to 15 Students

The University of Ilorin, Nigeria has announced the successful disbursement of the 2024/2025 OPay Scholarship awards to 15 deserving students. The scholarship, totaling N4.5 million, provides each recipient with N300,000 to support their academic pursuits.

The disbursement was completed on Thursday, September 18, 2025, under a long-term partnership between the university and the financial technology company. The initiative is part of a 10-year scholarship scheme established by OPay, which aims to sponsor 20 UNILORIN students annually, thereby alleviating financial barriers and fostering academic excellence.

Dr. Alex Akanmu, Dean of Student Affairs at UNILORIN, praised OPay for its sustained commitment.

"This scholarship has significantly eased the financial burdens on our students," Dr. Akanmu stated. "We deeply appreciate OPay for this noble gesture and encourage the beneficiaries to remain focused on their studies to justify the investment made in them."
