UNILORIN Final-Year Student Bags 2-Year Prison Sentence

A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin has sentenced a final-year student of the University of Ilorin, Ajani Samuel, to two years imprisonment for offences bordering on cybercrime and romance scam.

According to the EFCC Ilorin Zonal Office, which prosecuted the case, Samuel pleaded guilty to the charges. Delivering judgment, Justice Sikiru Oyinloye said the prosecution successfully proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

Count 1: 6 months imprisonment or ₦50,000 option of fine

Count 2: 2 years imprisonment or ₦200,000 option of fine

The court also ordered the forfeiture of his iPhones, laptop, and a manager’s cheque of ₦100,000 raised as restitution.

One of the charges stated that Samuel knowingly controlled $9,348 in his blockchain wallet between June 2020 and May 2021, funds believed to be unlawfully obtained.
