UNILORIN Security Chief Mr. Paul Bamidele Ogidi Attributes Campus Safety to Collaboration and Technology

Mr. Paul Bamidele Ogidi, Acting Director of the University of Ilorin Security Unit, has credited the prevailing peace and security on campus to strong collaboration with stakeholders, modern technology, and the proactive measures taken by the institution’s security personnel.

In an interview on the Yoruba program ‘Oro to n lo’ on UNILORIN FM, Mr. Ogidi emphasized that maintaining security is a collective effort. He highlighted the unwavering support of the University management, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole SAN, in addressing security challenges, including those posed by Fulani herdsmen. Mr. Ogidi, a retired DSS officer, noted that regular meetings with Fulani community leaders have contributed to a safer environment.

Drawing from his extensive experience, including roles as Security Liaison Officer to Australian Prime Minister John Howard and Chief Security Officer at various prestigious institutions, Mr. Ogidi praised UNILORIN’s calm and law-abiding atmosphere. He stressed the importance of community engagement, continuous training for security staff, and the need for ongoing support from all stakeholders.

On the International Day for Suicide Prevention, Mr. Ogidi advised against suicide and encouraged individuals to seek help. He attributed youth involvement in cybercrime to factors like greed, ignorance, and lack of contentment, calling for improved parenting, job opportunities, and moral guidance from religious leaders and monarchs.
