UNILORIN VC Urges Engineering Students to Embrace Discipline at EPEX 2024

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has called on students, especially those from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, to dedicate themselves to their studies and contribute positively to societal development. 

Prof. Egbewole made this appeal during the 10th edition of the Engineering Projects Exhibition (EPEX 2024), held recently at the University Auditorium. Represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof. Jamiu Odusote, he paid tribute to the late AbdulHakeem Temitope AbdulRahman, a key figure behind the inception of the EPEX in 2014. Prof. Egbewole highlighted the exhibition as a significant academic event showcasing innovative engineering projects from across Nigeria’s universities.

The event attracted participants from various institutions, including Al-Hikmah University, University of Port Harcourt, Federal University of Technology Minna, and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology.

Prof. Egbewole urged students to seize opportunities and invest their time wisely, avoiding procrastination. He emphasized the importance of hard work and dedication in achieving success.

Prof. Babatunde Asafa Teslim, a member of the judging panel from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), commended the contestants for their creativity and innovation, noting their potential to drive societal progress.

The NUESA President, Salako Michael Ademuyiwa, also praised the exhibition as a vital contribution to national development and congratulated participants from various universities.

At the conclusion of the exhibition, SUNPOD from Kwara State University, Malete, emerged as the winner, receiving a cash prize of N1 million. The team "Smoke Guard" from the University of Port Harcourt secured the second position with N700,000, while the University of Ilorin team placed third and received N500,000.

The event was well-attended by dignitaries including Prof. A. S. Adekunle, Prof. H. A. Ajimotokan, Dr. Olayinka Okiola, Dr. Yusuf Babatunde, Dr. Sikiru Olayinka Zakariya, Dr. O. A. Otueze, Prof. A. Y. AbdulRahman, and Engr. Oluwole Raphael.
