University of Maiduguri Alumnus, Mele Kolo Kyari, Achieves Excellence as NNPC Limited GCEO

The University of Maiduguri is proud to claim Mele Kolo Kyari, a distinguished alumnus, as a shining example of excellence.

Born on January 8, 1965, in Maiduguri, Borno State, Kyari has risen through the ranks to become the first Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Limited).

Kyari's academic journey began at Government Community Secondary School Biu in Borno State, where he completed his secondary education between 1977 and 1982. He then proceeded to the University of Maiduguri, graduating with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Geology and Earth Science in 1987.

Prior to his appointment as GCEO, Kyari served as the Group General Manager, Crude Oil Marketing Division of the NNPC, and the Nigerian National Representative at the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) since 2018.

 

As a testament to his exceptional leadership and expertise, Kyari has become a prominent figure in the oil and gas industry, both nationally and internationally. The University of Maiduguri is proud to have played a part in his academic journey and congratulates him on his achievements.
