UNN Alumni Honours COOU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kate Omenugha with Academic Icon Award

She received the Academic Icon Award on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. The award ceremony took place at the Vice-Chancellor’s office, where Prof. Omenugha welcomed a delegation from the UNN Alumni Association, led by the association’s President, alongside the Secretary and Programme Coordinator. She was joined by COOU’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Osita Chiaghanam.
In presenting the award on behalf of the global UNN alumni community, the association’s president praised Prof. Omenugha for her exemplary academic journey, highlighting her distinction as the first female Vice-Chancellor of COOU and the second female Professor of Mass Communication in Nigeria. He described her as “a beacon of excellence, integrity, and innovation in the academic world.”
Prof. Omenugha expressed gratitude for the recognition, calling it “deeply humbling and inspiring.” She lauded the alumni for their ongoing impact across various sectors and reaffirmed her commitment to promoting academic excellence and inclusive leadership.
The ceremony concluded on a celebratory note as both parties sang the UNN Anthem, evoking fond memories of Prof. Omenugha’s time at the University of Nigeria.
