Usmanu Danfodiyo University Mourns the Loss of Veteran Lecturer Malam Abubakar S. Muhammad (Baba Sokoto)

The Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) community is in mourning following the death of Malam Abubakar S. Muhammad, a beloved and long-serving lecturer in the Department of Sociology, popularly known as "Baba Sokoto."

Malam Muhammad passed away in the late hours of Thursday, December 11, 2025, after a brief illness. In accordance with Islamic tradition, he was buried promptly in Sokoto today, December 12, 2025.

"Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un." (Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return.)

Known affectionately as Baba Sokoto by students and colleagues alike, he was a highly respected figure within the university's academic environment. His contributions to the Department of Sociology and the wider institution have been widely recognized.

The university administration, faculty, and student body extend their deepest condolences to his immediate family and pray that Allah forgives his shortcomings and grants him Aljannatul Firdaus (the highest paradise).
