WAEC Yet to Finalize CBT Exams for May/June Candidates

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that it has not yet decided on the implementation of computer-based tests (CBT) for May/June candidates in the ongoing school-based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). This statement comes amidst rising concerns regarding individuals and website operators claiming to possess examination question papers ahead of schedule, aiming to exploit students for financial gain.

WAEC clarified that current computer-based examinations are exclusively available to private candidates. The first series commenced in February 2024, with the second series set to start this Friday. Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, Head of the Public Affairs Department of WAEC Nigeria, confirmed the details regarding the second series exam for private candidates, which will run until December 20, 2024.

The examination will follow a hybrid model, allowing candidates to choose between online and traditional paper-and-pencil formats. Students can opt to complete their multiple-choice questions, practicals, and essays either through pen and paper or on computers provided in the examination halls.

In light of this announcement, WAEC has extended the registration deadline for interested candidates to Tuesday, October 29, with practical exams scheduled for the initial days of the exam period.

As WAEC navigates these challenges, students are urged to stay vigilant against fraudulent claims regarding examination papers and to ensure their registration is completed by the new deadline.
