West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use, (WASCAL) appoints Ogunjobi as Interim Executive Director at the Federal University of Technology Akure FUTA.

The Governing Board of the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use, (WASCAL) has appointed Kehinde Ogunjobi, a Professor of Meteorology and Climate Science  at the Federal University of Technology Akure FUTA ,as  Interim Executive Director. 

Ogunjobi, who is currently the Director, WASCAL Competence Centre, Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso will assume the new role effective Tuesday, August 1, 2023. 

The  letter of appointment signed by the Chairperson of WASCAL Governing Board, Professor Marie-Luce Akossiwoa Quashie, after  the Extraordinary Meeting of the WASCAL Executive Committee held in Accra from 30-31 May, 2023 indicated that Professor Ogunjobi will serve in the position of Interim Executive Director of WASCAL until a substantive Executive Director is recruited.

Prior to joining WASCAL as Director, Competence Centre in Ouagadougou in 2020, Professor Ogunjobi served as Deputy Director and Director, WASCAL (FUTA) where he served meritoriously, bringing to bear his experience and expertise as a meteorologist, especially in the field of climate science.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji responding to the development said the appointment is a clear demonstration of Professor Ogunjobi's acumen as a renowned scholar and administrator in his field

of study. She said,  "On behalf of the Governing Council, Management and Staff of FUTA, I congratulate  Professor Ogunjobi on this new appointment and wish him well in the new role. I have no doubt that he will represent the university well in his new position."

WASCAL (West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use) is a large-scale research-focused Climate Service Centre designed to help tackle this challenge and thereby enhance the resilience of human and environmental systems to climate change and increased variability. It does so by strengthening the research infrastructure and capacity in West Africa related to climate change and by pooling the expertise of ten West African countries and Germany.
