She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Lander University, followed by master’s degrees in Nursing Education from Regis University and Public Health from South University, where she maintained an impressive grade point average.

Dorothy Miller, a determined young woman from Laurinburg, United States, has defied the odds and achieved extraordinary success despite facing significant challenges early in life. At the age of 15, Dorothy became a mother, but she refused to let this define her future. Instead, she embarked on a journey of perseverance and dedication, ultimately earning a bachelor’s degree, two master’s degrees, and a doctorate in Nursing.
Today, Dorothy serves as the department chair of Health Sciences at St. Andrews University, exemplifying resilience and tenacity in the face of adversity. Reflecting on her journey, she attributes her success to her unwavering determination and the support of her mother, who encouraged her to continue her education even after becoming a teenage mother.

Despite the obstacles she encountered, Dorothy pressed on, graduating high school and pursuing her passion for nursing. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Lander University, followed by master’s degrees in Nursing Education from Regis University and Public Health from South University, where she maintained an impressive grade point average.
Dorothy’s commitment to education did not end there. She furthered her academic pursuits by obtaining a doctorate in Higher Education Administration from the University of Phoenix. Her achievements stand as a testament to her resilience and determination to create a better future for herself and her family.
In addition to her academic endeavors, Dorothy has made significant contributions to the field of nursing education. In 2021, she established the first nursing school at St. Andrews Hospital, underscoring her dedication to addressing the shortage of nurses in small towns. Furthermore, Dorothy is running for the North Carolina Board of Nursing, aiming to make a lasting impact on the healthcare profession.
Dorothy’s daughter, Bandy, has also followed in her mother’s footsteps, becoming the first graduate of the nursing program that Dorothy established. Despite the pressure of being the founder’s daughter, Bandy persevered and emerged as a shining example of determination and resilience.
