A distressing situation has emerged as 15-year-old Emmanuella Monday has accused her mother, Mrs. Eunice Asulie, of abandoning her in a hotel room with a man and facilitating her involvement with inappropriate individuals. This alarming claim follows Emmanuella's escape from Beeland Hotel in Ovwian, Udu Local Government Area, where she was allegedly handed over to a man identified only as Aboki. This was revealed In a report by Sahara reporters. 

Emmanuella, a senior secondary school student at Triumphant School in Effurun, shared her ordeal in a video recorded at her school, urgently calling for justice and support. “My mum is pushing me into situations I don’t want to be in,” she stated, her voice filled with concern.

The young girl explained that her mother took her to the hotel after church, promising to return but never did. “She handed me over to a man and said she was coming back. I waited until the evening but did not see her. When the man went to take a bath, I took the opportunity to leave,” Emmanuella shared, noting that the man did not engage with her in any way.

Emmanuella's situation has drawn the attention of child rights advocates in Delta State. Comrade Ighorhiowunu Aghogho has submitted a letter to the Delta State Coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), urging immediate action to protect Emmanuella from potential exploitation. Aghogho’s letter highlights violations of the Child Rights Act 2003, which is designed to safeguard children from harm.

The letter requests police protection, a custody order favoring her school proprietress, and financial support for Emmanuella's care. “Failure to act may allow ongoing issues and undermine the Child Rights Act,” the letter emphasizes, calling for prompt intervention.

As of October 20, 2024, the matter has been reported to the Ovwian Police Station, with Inspector Esther Obukowho assigned to investigate. Emmanuella has since been placed in the care of her school proprietress, Mrs. Magareth Oghuvwu, who is dedicated to ensuring her safety.

When contacted for comment, NHRC Delta State Coordinator Mrs. Angela Agbame confirmed receipt of the complaint and stated that they are taking the situation seriously. However, DSP Edafe Bright, spokesperson for the Delta State police command, indicated he was unaware of the case and advised Emmanuella to report to the nearest police station.

This troubling situation highlights the urgent need for justice and protection for vulnerable children like Emmanuella. Advocates and the community are coming together to ensure her safety and hold accountable those involved in her situation.
