BUK Lecturer Embroiled in Controversy Over Alleged Mishandling of Pregnant Student

A lecturer from Bayero University Kano's (BUK) School of Continuing Education (SCE) has sparked outrage among students and faculty members after allegedly humiliating a pregnant student during an examination.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred during an EEP 4201 exam at the Musa Abdullahi Auditorium. The lecturer, whose identity has been confirmed, was supervising students from Sociology, Criminology, and Accounting departments.

Eyewitnesses reported that the lecturer was aggressive in his supervision, yelling at students over seating arrangements. When a pregnant sociology student waved at a friend entering the hall, the lecturer ordered her to kneel down in front of the hall, disregarding her pleas about her pregnancy.

Two male students were also asked to kneel. The sociology class representative intervened, informing the lecturer of the student's pregnancy, but was rebuffed with a dismissive "and so what."

The students chose to focus on their exams and address the issue later. After submitting their exams, they confronted the lecturer, who showed no remorse and offered only a perfunctory apology.

The matter has been reported to the Head of the Department of Sociology, Dean of Social Sciences, Students Union Government (SUG), Dean of SCE, and Dean of Student Affairs.

Students have condemned the lecturer's conduct as unacceptable, backward, misogynistic, and inhumane. The university community demands justice and calls for measures to prevent similar incidents.

"We applaud the resilience shown by sociology and criminology students and urge relevant authorities to ensure this incident does not tarnish our institution's reputation," said a student representative.
