Alarming statistics have emerged from the Federal University Dutse, revealing that 70% of students in the Department of Mathematics have a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of less than 2.5. This has led to the department being colloquially labeled as the "center of carryovers" due to the high number of students repeating courses.

The concerning trend has sparked a debate within the academic community about the factors contributing to this high rate of academic underperformance and the steps needed to address it.

Dr. Umar Abdullahi, the Head of the Department of Mathematics, expressed his concerns about the situation. "These statistics are troubling and indicate a need for a thorough review of our teaching methods, curriculum, and student support systems. We must ensure that our students are adequately prepared and supported to succeed in their studies," he stated.

This plan may include curriculum adjustments, enhanced tutoring programs, and workshops aimed at improving study skills and exam preparation.

As the Federal University Dutse works to improve academic outcomes in the Department of Mathematics, the broader academic community will be watching closely. The hope is that with targeted interventions and collaborative efforts, the department can shed its reputation as the "center of carryovers" and become a model of academic excellence.
