In a bold step towards institutional advancement, the Vice Chancellor, Northwest University Kano, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, has inaugurated nine specialized committees to oversee key programs aimed at positioning the university among Nigeria’s top academic institutions.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the university's Senate Chamber, marked a significant milestone in the Vice Chancellor’s commitment to academic and administrative excellence. Each committee was assigned a well-defined Terms of Reference (ToR) and a timeline to submit their respective reports.
Speaking at the event, Professor Kurawa emphasized the importance of the committees in shaping the university’s future, urging members to work diligently towards enhancing the institution’s global reputation.
"These committees have been carefully constituted to drive critical initiatives that will strengthen the university’s academic, administrative, and research capacities. I charge you all to work tirelessly in ensuring that Northwest University Kano achieves its vision of becoming one of Nigeria’s leading institutions," the Vice Chancellor stated.
On behalf of all the committee chairpersons, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Abubakar Salisu Garba, expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for entrusting them with these responsibilities. He assured the university leadership of their collective commitment to delivering impactful results.

1. Committee on Naming University Buildings After Prominent Personalities – Chaired by Professor Abubakar Salisu Garba (DVC Administration)
2. Committee on Digitalization and Centralization of Academic Transcript Generation and Printing – Chaired by Dr. Abdulmajid Babangida Umar (Dean, Faculty of Computing)
3. Committee on Summer Courses and Examination – Chaired by Dr. Tijjani Rufai Buhari (DVC Academics)
4. Governing Board of the University Staff School – Chaired by Professor Tijjani Isma’il
5. Committee for the Establishment of Yusuf Maitama Sule Centre for Democratic Politics and Good Governance – Chaired by Professor Mansur Ibrahim Mukhtar
6. Committee for the Establishment of Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics – Chaired by Professor Sammani Danwawu Abdullahi
7. Committee for the Establishment of Centre for Gender Studies and Domestic Violence – Chaired by Dr. Rukkaya Hamidu Muhammad (Director, Linkages)
8. Committee for the Recognition of Hardworking Staff – Chaired by Dr. Muhammad Bilyaminu Ado (Director, Quality Assurance)
9. Committee for the Establishment of Centre for Almajiri and Street Beggars – Chaired by Dr. Nura Gwadabe.
The establishment of these committees reflects Northwest University Kano's strategic focus on academic excellence, technological advancement, gender inclusivity, staff welfare, and social responsibility.
Among the committees, those focusing on Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Democratic Politics and Good Governance, and Gender Studies and Domestic Violence signify the university’s commitment to addressing contemporary global challenges through research and innovation.
