Abia State University Management Responds to ASUU-ABSU Strike
The management of Abia State University, Uturu, has expressed concern over the commencement of strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Abia State University Branch (ASUU-ABSU).

The management of Abia State University, Uturu, has expressed concern over the commencement of strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Abia State University Branch (ASUU-ABSU).
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Ndukwe J. Okeudo, stated this on behalf of the University Management in a statement dated August 12, 2026.
The development comes despite ongoing engagements between the University Management, the Abia State Government and other governing authorities towards addressing the demands of the union, some of which predate the current administration.
Management said it remains optimistic that the issues raised by ASUU-ABSU will be resolved speedily and amicably.
Against this backdrop, the University Management urged the union to return to the negotiation table so that all parties can collectively work towards finding enduring and mutually beneficial solutions that will guarantee a conducive academic environment.
Students have also been advised to remain calm and await further directives as engagements with the staff unions continue.
The management reiterated its commitment to fostering a harmonious relationship with ASUU-ABSU and other staff unions, with a view to maintaining a peaceful industrial atmosphere and ensuring the uninterrupted pursuit of the University’s academic mission.
