ABU Vice-Chancellor Commends Progress at Bulk Metering Unit

The Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Professor Adamu Ahmed, has expressed satisfaction with the remarkable progress recorded at the institution’s Bulk Metering Unit.

Prof. Ahmed made this known during his visit to the facility on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, noting that significant improvements had been achieved in electricity management within just two months of appointing the Acting Head of the Unit, Engineer Ahmed Rufai Abubakar.

Welcomed by the unit’s staff led by Engr. Abubakar, the Vice-Chancellor toured various sections of the facility and observed that the unit was gradually taking shape. He also expressed delight that the university’s monthly electricity expenses were steadily reducing through ongoing cost-saving initiatives.

Prof. Ahmed attributed the progress to the dedication and cooperation of the unit’s staff and other stakeholders. He disclosed plans to send some staff members for certification training to boost their technical capacity and hinted at allocating official residential quarters to some off-campus staff due to the nature of their work.

He thanked the team for their efforts and urged them to fully support their new head in advancing the university’s electricity systems.

During the tour, Engr. Abubakar briefed the Vice-Chancellor on the milestones achieved and challenges faced. He requested the engagement of experts to assess all electricity transformers for efficiency and announced plans for a comprehensive maintenance exercise across all substations and systems at the end of the academic year.

Abubakar also appealed for additional manpower to enhance operational efficiency, noting that safety gear—including boots, overalls, and raincoats—had already been procured, with staff set to begin using them from next week.

Another staff member, Umaru Musa, also appreciated the Vice-Chancellor’s unwavering support and assured him of the team’s commitment to duty.
