ABU Vice-Chancellor Commends Six Retiring Zoology Staff for Meritorious Service

Prof. Ahmed spoke at a send-off ceremony organised by the department in honour of the retirees. He was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Advancement, Research and Innovation, Prof. Sunusi Aliyu Rafindadi.

The Vice-Chancellor described the celebration of the six staff as “well deserved,” saying their contributions to the development of the university could not be measured. 

According to him, the retiring staff helped the Department of Zoology excel amongst its peers and lent intellectual footprints that went beyond the university. 

He urged other units to emulate the department in appreciating and celebrating staff for their services and commitment to institutional progress.

Chairman of the occasion, Prof. C.E. Mbah, congratulated the retirees on a successful career and thanked them for adding value to the university through mentoring and impacting a large number of students.  

The Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Prof. Maryam Aminu, represented by the Deputy Dean, Prof. M.A. Musa, said the celebrants had shaped the academic life of several generations. She appreciated their commitment to teaching, research, and community engagement, and wished them a peaceful and fulfilling retirement.

In her welcome address, the Head, Department of Zoology, Prof. S.A. Luka, expressed gratitude to God for sparing their lives to serve the university. She said their years of service, scholarship, and mentorship had shaped the department to what it is today.

Prof. Luka also thanked both academic and technical staff for training students and upholding laboratory standards, and wished the retirees the best in their new chapter.

The honoured staff are: Prof. I.H. Nok, Prof. T.O.L. Aken’Ova, Prof. Augustine U. Ezealor, Prof. S.J. Oniye, Mrs. R.A. Lasisi, and Mr. M.S. Wularikan.
