Adeleke Denies Collection of N8 Billion LAUTECH Refund from Oyo State
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke denied claims that his administration received an N8 billion refund from the Oyo State Government for the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH).
The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has denied recent claims that his administration received an N8 billion refund from the Oyo State Government as part of a settlement for the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH).
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Tuesday in Osogbo, Governor Adeleke clarified that his administration has only received a total of N500 million in connection to the LAUTECH settlement. The statement highlighted that the previous administration under former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola had collected N3.5 billion from Oyo State, of which almost N2 billion was spent prior to the end of Oyetola's tenure.
The ongoing dispute regarding LAUTECH’s ownership and financial obligations has a history dating back to the Olagunsoye Oyinlola administration and resurfaced prominently under Governor Oyetola, leading to an eventual division of assets between Oyo and Osun states.
According to the statement, “Contrary to the fake news, the Oyetola administration actually received a payment of three billion, five hundred million naira from the Oyo State government as part of the LAUTECH settlement payment before leaving office.”
It further detailed that, as of November 30, 2022, a balance of N1,562,440,436.80 remained from the N3.5 billion originally received by Oyetola's administration, with approximately N1.94 billion already spent. Since Governor Adeleke assumed office, only an additional N500 million has been received from Oyo State, bringing the total amount to N4 billion.
The statement also clarified that the funds have been partly allocated to infrastructure development projects across Osun State. Governor Adeleke emphasized his administration’s commitment to transparency, noting that all funds are managed in alignment with state financial regulations as outlined in the Appropriation Act.
Urging the public to disregard reports suggesting otherwise, Governor Adeleke reiterated his dedication to maintaining accountability and transparency in managing state resources.
