The event was organised by the Delta State Drug Control Committee (SDCC), led by the Director of Pharmaceutical Services and Chairperson of the Committee, Pharm. (Mrs.) Orie H. I. It was held under the theme, "The World Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges and Innovative Responses."
The Vice-Chancellor of Admiralty University of Nigeria, Professor Christopher Ndubisi Bankole Ogbogbo, was represented by the Head of the Counselling Unit, Mr. Edward S. Ozokede, who delivered the Vice-Chancellor's goodwill message.
In his message, the Vice-Chancellor described the theme as timely and relevant, noting the changing patterns of substance abuse and the growing challenges associated with drug misuse. He stressed that prevention remains one of the most effective approaches to tackling drug-related problems and called for sustained public awareness, stronger collaboration, evidence-based interventions, and continuous education, particularly among young people.

The event was attended by the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, who was represented by Dr. Festus Okubor. Also represented was the First Lady of Delta State, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori. Other dignitaries present included the Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Delta State Command, Commander Alihu Amedu (PhD); Obi Nwanyi Ajifo, representing the Asagba of Asaba; the guest speaker, Dr. Anthony C. Enebe; and Dr. Michael Emechile, who represented the Minister of Basic Education.
Speaking at the event, Commander Alihu Amedu highlighted the dangers of drug abuse among youths and teenagers, emphasising that the most effective way to prevent addiction is to avoid the use of illicit drugs entirely.
In his keynote address, Dr. Anthony C. Enebe described the global drug problem as a shared responsibility that requires collective action. He commended the Delta State Government for supporting rehabilitation initiatives, including the rehabilitation centres in Kwale and Awai.

In her closing remarks, the Chairperson of the State Drug Control Committee, Pharm. (Mrs.) Orie H. I., expressed appreciation to all dignitaries, participants, students, and stakeholders for their commitment to combating drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
