DUFUHS, DUFUTH Renew Partnership to Strengthen Medical Education and Research

The leadership of David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS), led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jesse Uneke, has paid a courtesy visit to the newly appointed Chief Medical Director (CMD) of David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH), Prof. Alo Chihurumnanya, to congratulate him on his appointment and reaffirm the longstanding partnership between the two institutions.

During the visit, Prof. Uneke expressed confidence in the new CMD's leadership, describing him as an experienced professional with the expertise needed to build on the achievements of his predecessors.

The Vice-Chancellor described the University and the teaching hospital as inseparable institutions, noting that their shared location provides significant opportunities for collaboration in healthcare delivery, medical education, research, and efficient resource sharing. He expressed optimism that the renewed partnership would serve as a model for similar institutions across the country.

Prof. Uneke also encouraged DUFUTH consultants to take advantage of opportunities for full-time academic appointments at the University while serving as honorary consultants at the teaching hospital. According to him, the arrangement would promote career development and deliver mutual benefits to both institutions.

He further highlighted the University's success in securing three National Research Fund (NRF) grants and called for stronger multidisciplinary research collaboration between specialists from DUFUHS and DUFUTH to build a sustainable research culture.

Responding, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Alo Chihurumnanya, described the visit as a demonstration of the strong relationship and shared vision between the University and the teaching hospital.

He referred to DUFUHS and DUFUTH as "conjoined twins," emphasizing that closer collaboration would strengthen medical education, specialist training, research, and quality healthcare delivery.

Prof. Chihurumnanya also encouraged consultants at DUFUTH to embrace academic appointments at the University, noting that the initiative would enhance professional growth, mentorship, and the training of future healthcare professionals.

The CMD assured the University of DUFUTH's commitment to providing an enabling environment for teaching, research, and accreditation, while reaffirming the hospital's readiness to work closely with DUFUHS to advance healthcare delivery, medical education, and research for the benefit of society.
