AFUED Vice-Chancellor Urges Federal Government to Increase Funding for Teacher Education
The Vice-Chancellor of Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), Professor Bayode Isaiah Popoola, has called on the Federal Government to prioritize and increase funding for teacher education to secure Nigeria’s educational and national future.
Professor Popoola made this appeal while addressing the 2025/2026 matriculation ceremony for newly admitted part-time degree students, held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the University’s New Centre for Educational Technology.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the profession, the Vice-Chancellor noted that a "virile teacher education" system is the bedrock of national development. “Since the future of our nation lies in effective teacher education, there is a need to invest heavily in the training of teachers,” he remarked.
He described AFUED as Nigeria’s premier destination for teacher training, citing its long-standing reputation for producing competent educators who drive the nation's academic standards.

Speaking to the students admitted through the Directorate of Continuing Education and Part-time Studies (DOCEPS), Professor Popoola urged them to view their admission as a privilege. He advised the matriculants to remain focused, stating that university education requires intense effort and commitment rather than complacency.
“I want you to be guided by the highest standards of integrity and diligence,” he said, warning against examination misconduct and other distractions that could hinder their personal and academic growth.
Professor Popoola expressed gratitude to parents for their trust in the institution, assuring them that AFUED remains committed to nurturing students into "competent, responsible, and patriotic citizens."
The ceremony was attended by top university officials, including the Chairman of the Committee of Deans, Professor Oyenike Oyinloye, and the Director of DOCEPS, Dr. A. Shuaibu.
