Ag. Parliament Speaker, Sen. Barau Chairs Second Extra Ordinary Session, BUK VC Attends

The Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, attended the 6th ECOWAS Parliament session, which took place from May 20-25, 2024, at Bristol Palace, Kano.

The session was inaugurated by President Bola Ahmad Tinubu, Chairman of the Authority of Head of States and Government of ECOWAS, marking the beginning of the 6th Legislature. The new Bureau members were elected, with Rt. Hon. Barau Jibril, Acting Speaker of the Sixth Legislature, and Senator Barau I. Jibril, First Deputy Speaker.

Senator Jibril urged members to foster a spirit of brotherhood, promoting regional development. "We are all brothers and sisters, divided only by colonialism. I'm delighted to have the West African region gathered in Kano, a beacon of Northern Nigeria and commercial hub."

Hon. Hajiya Ladi from Ghana highlighted the need for women's involvement in decision-making positions, warning that without action, women may become absent from key positions in West Africa.
