ASUU Announces Indefinite Nationwide Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced its participation in an indefinite nationwide strike led by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). This decision comes as a response to what ASUU President, Comrade Emmanuel Osodeke, termed as the government's "inconclusive national minimum wage negotiation and refusal to reverse the hike in electricity tariff."

Comrade Osodeke affirmed ASUU's commitment to aligning with the NLC, emphasizing the strong affiliation between the two organizations. "ASUU is an affiliate of NLC, hence ASUU will participate in any action of NLC," he stated.

The announcement comes at a time of escalating tensions between the Nigerian government and various labor unions over economic policies and workers' rights. The NLC had earlier declared an indefinite nationwide strike following the deadlock in negotiations regarding the national minimum wage and the government's reluctance to roll back the recent increase in electricity tariffs.
