The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has intensified its call on the Federal Government to fulfill its commitment to remove university staff from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), as well as address longstanding renegotiation agreements.

Dr. Joshua Silas, Chairman of ASUU at the Federal University, Lokoja (FUL), voiced these demands during a protest held on Tuesday at the FUL campus in Felele, Lokoja. The nationwide protests were organized in solidarity with ASUU's national body, aiming to prompt government action on unresolved issues affecting university staff.

"We are carrying out these protests nationwide as directed by the national body of ASUU to urge the federal government to promptly meet our demands," Dr. Silas stated passionately. He highlighted the government's failure to fulfill promises made regarding the 2009 renegotiation agreements with ASUU, which have remained unresolved for over a decade.

"The government pledged to address our needs, but from 2009 to 2024, nothing substantial has been done," Dr. Silas lamented. He emphasized that despite suspending their last strike in October 2022 with hopes of resolution, ASUU members have seen no progress on crucial issues.

Central to their demands is the removal of university staff from IPPIS, a system ASUU argues is incompatible with the peculiarities of university operations. The union has consistently advocated for the adoption of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) as an alternative payroll system, developed by Nigerian academics to better suit the needs of the university environment.
