The Bala and Ladi Angbazo Legacy Foundation has committed to establishing a Centre for Leadership, Security, and Policy Research at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK). This announcement was made by Major General Nuhu Angbazo (Rtd), Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, during the university’s 3rd International Conference organized by the Faculty of Arts.

The event, held at the S.B. Mohammed Auditorium on September 11, 2024, saw Gen. Angbazo receive a Distinguished Award in Peace Development. The retired General, formerly the General Officer Commanding the 3rd Division of the Nigerian Army, expressed his gratitude to the Faculty of Arts for the recognition and pledged that the partnership with NSUK would be an ongoing effort to promote leadership discourse and research.

In her address, the Vice-Chancellor of NSUK, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, congratulated the Faculty of Arts for hosting the conference, themed "Humanities, Science, and Development." She emphasized the interconnectedness of scientific advancements, human values, and development, stressing that this relationship is key to solving global challenges. She called for the discussions at the conference to focus on scientific progress, human needs, sustainable development, and governance.

The keynote speaker, Professor Sule Emmanuel Egya of IBB University, Lapai, delivered an insightful address on “Critical Thinking and the Invention of New Humanities.” He emphasized that critical thinking, fostered by the humanities, is essential for societal development. Prof. Egya advocated for a recalibration of the current humanistic systems, rooted in traditions capable of addressing neocolonial and neoliberal structures.

In addition to the conference proceedings, posthumous awards were presented to two former Deans of the Faculty, the late Professor Umelo Ojinma and Dogara Gwamna. Past Deans, Professor Adewole Adigun Alagbe and Professor Gideon Sunday Omachonu, were also honored for their contributions.

The conference was graced by esteemed guests, including the Chancellor of the University and Emir of Keffi, Alhaji Dr. Shehu Chindo Yamusa III, represented by the Wambain Keffi, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdul, and HRM Pharm Luka Panya Baba, the Esu Karu, among other notable dignitaries.

With the establishment of the Centre for Leadership, Security, and Policy Research, NSUK solidifies its position as a leading institution in advancing leadership and development in the humanities and beyond.
