ASUU Bauchi Zone Threatens Fresh Strike Over Unresolved Issues

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Bauchi Zone, which covers six universities, has announced its readiness to embark on another strike due to the Federal Government's failure to address longstanding issues affecting university workers.

The zone includes Federal University Kashere, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, University of Jos, Bauchi State University, Plateau State University Bokkos, and Gombe State University.

The unresolved issues include payment of earned academic allowances, promotion arrears, third-party deductions, and revitalization funds for universities. ASUU's zonal coordinator, Professor Timothy Namo, expressed disappointment that despite previous warnings and a two-week strike notice, the government has made no substantial progress in resolving these issues.

The union has given the government a one-month window to conclude renegotiations, with only a few days left before the deadline expires. ASUU has rejected the government's proposed salary increase, describing it as "a paltry offer" and "a drop in the ocean" compared to the union's expectations. The union emphasizes that the problem is not a lack of funds but rather a lack of political will and misplaced priorities, citing increased revenue allocations to states and the federal government in recent years.
