ASUU Yola Zone Condemns Alleged Victimization of Members in Five Universities

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Yola Zone, has condemned the alleged victimization of its members across five Nigerian universities. In a statement released on Saturday, the Yola Zonal Office, which represents universities in Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, and Borno states, highlighted the unjust treatment faced by union members at Federal University of Technology, Owerri; Lagos State University; Ebonyi State University; Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma; Prince Abubakar Audu University; and Chukwu Emeka Odumegu Ojukwu University.

ASUU, through its Zonal Coordinator Dani Mamman, reported that members are enduring various forms of abuse including physical assault, wrongful dismissal, denial of promotions, suspension from duties, and non-payment of salaries. The union expressed solidarity with affected lecturers nationwide and criticized the dismissal of lecturers involved in union activities during the 2021 national strike.

The ASUU Yola Zone has called for the immediate reinstatement of all wrongfully dismissed members and the payment of withheld salaries. It also urged the Federal Government, National Assembly, and relevant stakeholders to address what it describes as a disturbing trend of victimization and to uphold academic freedom and integrity.
