The Management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, ATBU, Bauchi, has declared Monday, 17th August 2026, a work-free day for staff and students to enable participation in the Bauchi State Local Government Elections.
The directive was contained in a circular issued on 14th August 2026 by the Registrar, Kabiru Garba Aminu, on behalf of the Office of the Registrar.
According to the circular, the declaration follows the announcement by the Bauchi State Government of Monday, 17th August 2026 as a work-free day to enable workers and citizens to participate in the elections.

The Vice-Chancellor has approved that ATBU comply with the directive. Accordingly, all staff and students are permitted to observe the day as work-free in order to exercise their civic responsibility.
The University, however, stated that staff on essential services are exempted. This includes but is not limited to security, medical/health services, and other critical operations. Such staff are to remain on duty to ensure the continued running of essential university operations.
Normal academic and administrative activities will resume on Tuesday, 18th August 2026.
The University extended its best wishes to the Bauchi State Government and the electorate for a peaceful, credible, and hitch-free election.
