Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) in Bauchi State has lifted its ban on the use of gas cylinders for cooking by students, with certain conditions. The university now permits only 3kg gas cylinders in hostels, aligning with best practices at other institutions.

Professor Sa'id Umar, Dean of Student Affairs, announced the policy shift during the orientation ceremony for newly admitted students. The Students' Affairs Division, in collaboration with the Students' Union Government, has developed new guidelines for gas cylinder usage and hostel management.
