Augustine University Hosts 8th FAHUMSS Seminar Series on Global and Media Discourse
Augustine University, Ilara-Epe, Lagos State, through its Faculty of Humanities, Management and Social Sciences (FAHUMSS), has successfully hosted its 8th Seminar Series, bringing together academics, staff, and students to deliberate on pressing contemporary issues in global politics and media studies.

The seminar, held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the University Convocation Hall, featured scholarly presentations and interactive discussions aimed at strengthening research culture and intellectual engagement within the institution.
In her opening remarks, the Dean of FAHUMSS, Professor Grace Evbuomwan, reaffirmed the faculty’s commitment to advancing research, academic excellence, and critical discourse on national and global issues.
The seminar featured two main presentations:
First Presentation
Title: Iran, United States and the Israeli Conflict: Effects and Lessons for Nigeria
Presenter: Mr. Akintomiwa Obafemi, Department of Political Science and International Relations
The paper examined the dynamics of the Middle East conflict and its implications for Nigeria’s foreign policy, national security, and socio-economic development.
Second Presentation
Title: Deictic Analysis of Selected Political News Reports in Nigerian Newspapers
Presenter: Dr. Gbemisola Soyombo, Department of English
The paper analyzed the use of language and deictic expressions in political news reporting and how linguistic choices influence public interpretation of political events.
The presentations sparked robust engagement during the question-and-answer sessions, with participants contributing diverse academic perspectives that enriched the discourse.

The university noted that the seminar series remains a key platform for fostering interdisciplinary scholarship, critical thinking, and academic dialogue within the FAHUMSS community.
