Augustine University to Host Sungbo's-Eredo LiDAR Presentation Workshop

Augustine University, Ilara-Epe, is preparing to host a significant event, the Sungbo's-Eredo LiDAR Presentation Workshop, scheduled for August 5th and 6th, 2024, at the University Convocation Hall. This workshop marks the unveiling of findings from Africa's inaugural archaeological LiDAR survey, specifically focused on the historic Sungbo's-Eredo monument.

In collaboration with the Ife Sungbo Archaeological Team, the workshop aims to present and transfer the Sungbo's-Eredo LiDAR survey data, representing a pivotal moment in the conservation and promotion of this ancient monument.

The event builds upon the success of a previous workshop held on June 24th, 2021, which centered on research related to Sungbo's-Eredo preservation. This upcoming workshop will delve deeper into the survey's findings, providing new insights into the monument's archaeological significance and strategies for its preservation.

Distinguished guests expected to attend include HRM Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara Kingdom; Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Art, and Culture; Mr. Olugbile Holloway, Director-General of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM); representatives from the US Mission in Nigeria, UNESCO, Museum of West African Art (MOWAA), Professor Gerard Chouin from William & Mary, Virginia, USA; Professor Adisa Ogunfolakan from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife; and Professor Neil Norman from William & Mary, Virginia, USA.

The LiDAR research, pivotal to the workshop's presentations, is funded by the U.S. Mission Nigeria through the Ambassador Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP), underscoring international cooperation in cultural heritage conservation efforts.
