Bayero University Kano Secures $38 Million ICT Development Grant
Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has been selected as one of ten federal universities in Nigeria to benefit from a $38 million grant aimed at transforming the country's tertiary education system through digital innovation and infrastructure development.
The grant is part of the Blueprint-ICT-Dev Project, funded by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD).
The project, launched on July 1, 2025, at the National Universities Commission (NUC) headquarters in Abuja, seeks to establish smart campuses, promote hybrid learning, and enhance digital infrastructure in universities across Nigeria. BUK's Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Development, Professor Amina Mustapha, represented the university at the launch event.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, described the project as a "golden opportunity" for Nigerian universities to evolve into globally competitive institutions .
