Bayero University Kano Students Union Advocates for NELFUND Disbursement and Refund

The Students Union Government (SUG) of Bayero University, Kano, led by President Comr. Naseer Ibrahim Isak, has urged the university's management to facilitate the disbursement of funds from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to nearly 5,000 verified students.

This disbursement is expected to take place shortly before the commencement of exams .

 

 

In a letter dated October 3, 2024, addressed to the Vice Chancellor, the SUG president highlighted the urgent need for refunds to students who paid their registration fees before the NELFUND disbursement. Many of these students are facing financial hardship after borrowing money from friends and relatives to cover their registration costs.

The SUG is collaborating with NELFUND and the Dean of Students Affairs to ensure the disbursement and refund processes are expedited. The union is seeking the management's assistance in catalyzing the refund process to alleviate the financial burdens on affected students, enabling them to focus on their studies and perform well in their exams.

This development comes after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu presented a check of N698 million to Bayero University, Kano, for students who applied for the NELFUND loan scheme ¹. The university had earlier extended the student registration period by two weeks to accommodate more students for the NELFUND loans .
