Benue Government Unfreezes Accounts of Benue Poly, COE Oju, and Akperan Orshi Polytechnic
The Benue State Government has lifted the freeze on accounts for Benue State Polytechnic, College of Education Oju, and Akperan Orshi Polytechnic to enhance educational funding.
The Benue State Government has announced the unfreezing of the accounts of three key tertiary institutions: Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo; College of Education, Oju; and Akperan Orshi Polytechnic, Yandev. This decision was made public by the Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Rev. Dr. Frederick Ikyaan, during a meeting with the state assembly committee on tertiary institutions and heads of state-owned tertiary institutions in Makurdi.
Rev. Ikyaan highlighted that this initiative aligns with Governor Rev. Fr. Alia's administration's commitment to improving the education sector in the state. He noted that the government has shown significant political will by allocating 15% of the state budget to education, a move aimed at fostering growth and development in the sector.
Despite this positive development, committee chairman Mr. Manger Manger raised concerns about the current state of infrastructure within state institutions. He urged the government to expedite funding efforts to address these issues and improve overall educational quality. Mr. Manger commended the Commissioner for his dedication to enhancing educational standards.
Other committee members, including Hon. Terwase Uche, Ochekleye, and Douglas Akya, echoed the call for increased funding and a detailed itemization of the institutions' needs to facilitate better educational outcomes.
The meeting also saw the participation of key figures such as the Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Matthew Oglegba, and acting Chairman of the Board of Internal Revenue Service (BIRS) Mr. Sunday Odagba, alongside representatives from the affected tertiary institutions.
The unfreezing of accounts is expected to provide a much-needed financial boost to the institutions, enabling them to address pressing needs and enhance their educational offerings.
