Bowen University, located in Iwo, Osun State, has recently unveiled a new 150-bed capacity female hostel within its main campus premises. The inauguration ceremony took place on Monday, graced by the esteemed presence of the Visitor to the university, Reverend Israel Akanji, who serves as the President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention. The event witnessed enthusiastic support from members of the university governing council, principal officers, senior staff, and student leaders.

In his address during the commissioning, Dr. Akanji emphasized Bowen University's founding mission to collaborate with the Nigerian government in fostering the development and provision of globally competitive tertiary education institutions, steeped in moral and academic excellence.

Dr. Akanji highlighted the longstanding commitment of the Baptist Convention, dating back to 1855, in delivering quality education across Nigeria. He reaffirmed the Convention's unwavering dedication to ensuring top-tier education within conducive learning environments across all its educational institutions nationwide.

Echoing Dr. Akanji's sentiments, Deaconess Joan Ayo (OON), the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, expressed satisfaction with the university's rapid infrastructural advancements. She lauded the leadership of Professor Jonathan Babalola, the Vice Chancellor, and his team for their stewardship in driving progress within the institution.

Professor Babalola revealed that Bowen University had invested approximately N1.48 billion in the construction of the state-of-the-art female hostel, underscoring the institution's commitment to providing unparalleled facilities for its students. He emphasized Bowen's holistic approach to education, aiming to nurture well-rounded individuals grounded in academic excellence, entrepreneurship, leadership, moral uprightness, and social responsibility.

Mr. Uchechukwu Obed, the lead project consultant, lauded the security and safety features integrated into the hostel's design. He noted that despite its initial capacity of 150 beds, the hostel structure allows for future expansion to accommodate up to 300 students, reflecting the university's foresight and commitment to scalability.

In his remarks, the student leader, Joshua Akintola, praised Bowen University as a reputable institution dedicated to academic excellence and student welfare. He emphasized the student body's confidence in the university's policies and management, highlighting the institution's inclusive approach in fostering student participation and contribution to its development.
