BudgIT Celebrates 10th Anniversary of Tracka with Awards and Recognitions for Students
BudgIT’s Tracka celebrated its 10th anniversary at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos on September 14, 2024, with an event themed “Building People, Moulding Nations.” The celebration featured the Enough Is Enough (EIE) Award presented to entrepreneurs for their impactful contributions. Five secondary school students who excelled in national essay competitions were also recognized with certificates and cash prizes.
BudgIT’s Tracka platform marked its 10th anniversary with a grand celebration, featuring an entertainment event and award presentations at the Landmark Event Centre in Oniru, Lagos State. The event, themed “Building People, Moulding Nations,” was held on September 14, 2024, and highlighted achievements in various fields.
The celebration included the presentation of the Enough Is Enough (EIE) Award to notable entrepreneurs who have made significant impacts in their respective fields. The recipients of the EIE Award were Hauwa Ojeifo, Kelechukwu Nwachukwu, Bukola Bolarinwa, Bright Jaja, Victor Ekueme, Oladiwura Oladepo, Funke Adeoye, Michael Sowunmi, and Adepeju Jaiyeola.
In addition, five secondary school students who excelled in the Tracka at ten national essay competitions were honored with certificates and cash prizes. Ariel Olaniyan, the second runner-up, received N50,000; Ogunlana Klistivitonyon, the first runner-up, was awarded N100,000; and Oyinyechi Udensi, the winner, took home N200,000.
Speakers at the event emphasized the importance of youth engagement in politics to ensure accountable governance and reduce corruption. Yemi Adamolekun, Executive Director of Enough Is Enough (EIE), expressed concern over the lack of social movements in Nigeria and encouraged citizens to demand better governance. She criticized the absence of effective civic education, stating, “The less you know about your rights, the easier it is for you to be manipulated.”
Motunrayo Alaka, Executive Director and CEO of the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism, called for integrity in leadership and the normalization of protests as a democratic tool. She remarked, “We need good people in authority and to normalize protests; that’s what makes democracy work.”
BudgIT reported that Tracka has played a crucial role in monitoring the implementation of government projects over the past decade. The platform has facilitated the completion of over 11,800 projects, valued at N5.3 trillion, across education, health, and infrastructure sectors, impacting more than 10 million Nigerians in over 3,500 communities.
