BUK Bans "Signing-Out" Celebrations and Unauthorised Academic Gown Use

 The management of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has announced an immediate ban on all "signing-out" activities by graduating students within the campus.

In a Special Bulletin (Vol. XLIV No. 17) issued on Thursday, February 26, 2026, the university expressed serious concern over the growing trend of disruptive celebrations. The directive prohibits several specific acts commonly associated with the end of academic programmes:

Defaced Clothing: Wearing shirts with inscriptions or drawings is strictly forbidden.

Physical Alterations: Use of paint, ink, or markers on the body or university property.

Public Disturbance: Any related acts carried out under the guise of celebration.

Furthermore, the university has prohibited the use of academic gowns or specialized attire for unofficial celebrations or private photography sessions. Management clarified that these gowns are reserved exclusively for authorized university ceremonies.

The university warned that any student found violating these orders will face severe sanctions in accordance with school regulations. Security personnel have been specifically directed to arrest violators and ensure strict compliance.

The management reminded graduating students that a degree is awarded based on both learning and character, urging them to conduct themselves in a manner that upholds the dignity and reputation of the institution.
