BUK Centre for Dryland Agriculture Launches Student Training and Employability Program

The Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA) at Bayero University Kano has launched the Student Training and Employability Program (STEP), a five-day training initiative aimed at enhancing the employability of graduates and graduating students of agriculture.

 

The program, which commenced on January 6, 2025, is designed to equip participants with essential skills, including leadership, entrepreneurship, and technical skills, to increase their chances of securing employment in the agriculture industry.

According to Professor Jibrin Mohammed Jibrin, Director of CDA, the program is part of the centre's deliberate policy to create a sustainable future and foster self-reliance among youth and women through various agribusiness initiatives.

 

Dr. Adnan Aminu, Program Coordinator, highlighted that STEP is designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills required by employers in the agriculture industry. The program includes interactive sessions with industry leaders and employers, providing participants with opportunities for internships and employment.

Alhaji Sulaiman Ilu Dambazau, a philanthropist and industry leader, delivered a keynote address on the role of youth employment in agriculture and national development in Nigeria. He emphasized the importance of addressing challenges such as access to land and resources, educational gaps, and skills mismatches to promote youth employment in agriculture.

 

The launch of STEP demonstrates CDA's commitment to supporting the development of skilled and employable graduates in the agriculture sector, ultimately contributing to Nigeria's economic growth and national development.
